Our 2016 Global Fellows

Guido David Nuñez Mujica

Guido Núñez-Mujica is a computational biologist from Mérida, Venezuela. While working on his thesis, he co-founded LavaAmp, a biotech company devoted to making DNA diagnostics affordable and portable for neglected diseases in developing countries. Though LavaAmp failed, it sparked other innovators to work in these problems and earned him a TED Fellowship. His interest in science activism began in 2000, when anti-GMO activists burned a test field of GM papaya and launched a fear campaign in Mérida. He founded the first Skeptical Association in Venezuela, and has won national and international essay awards.”
