Meet Nkechi Isaac

June 22, 2016

As a journalist with Leadership Newspaper, a national publication headquartered in Abuja, Nigeria, Isaac writes frequently about biotechnology and biosafety issues. She played an active role in educating her readers about the issue when her nation was debating passage of its biosafety law between 2012 and 2016.

Isaac is one of 29 science and agriculture champions who will be coming to Ithaca in August for the 12-week Alliance for Science Global Leadership Fellows Program. They are part of a growing global network working to move science to the forefront of discussions about food, agriculture and access to innovation.

Isaac’s hobbies research, reading and writing dovetail nicely into her professional and academic pursuits. She has a bachelor s degree in English language and literature, and is currently completing her master s degree in English language at Nigeria’s Nasarawa State University.

She first became involved with the Cornell Alliance for Science when she attended its Africa Leadership Training Course in Mwanza, Tanzania, earlier this year. While there, she met some of the 2015 Global Leadership Fellows, as well as Alliance staff.

Isaac previously worked with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources. She is involved with the Nigeria Chapter of the Open Forum on Agricultural Biotechnology, the National Biotechnology Development Agency, the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations and the Nigerian Institute of Management.

Her professional skills and passion for communicating the facts about biotechnology make her a perfect fit for the 2016 cohort of Fellows.
