Over the past three decades, the commercialization of innovative agricultural technologies including genetically engineered products has been intensely debated among various stakeholders. Some of the frequently asked questions from African stakeholders include – should the invention be patentable?  Is it practical to patent it?  What are the social impacts of patenting and how are they assessed? etc.

In this webinar, Dr. Joseph Nderitu, a Kenyan scientist, Founder of TiiraHealth Ltd and doctor at Kenyatta National Hospital, will address the science commercialization areas such as the basics of intellectual property rights and address pertinent challenges to accessing innovative technologies. He will also address questions on how these IPs affect the commercialization of biotech and gene-edited products.

Dr. Joseph Nderitu is famous for creating an antiviral surgical mask that kills viruses.
